The route, used with some frequency by drug traffickers, transports drugs manufactured in Southeast Asia to other latitudes, with more than probable destinations in Southern Africa for local consumption and for subsequent shipment to other points where the price increases, such as Australia or New Zealand.

The Champlain, which has already seized more than 4,000 kilos of drugs this year, deployed two of its auxiliary boats to board the dhow, which is nothing more than a typical boat used by fishermen in the western Indian Ocean.
