Cantabrian bookstores celebrate their day

Like a space full of life. This is how illustrator Javier Navarrete wanted to portray Bookstore Day. The author of the poster celebrating the thirteenth edition of this day has created a universe of color based on the vision of “bookstores as an almost magical space full of stories that invites you to leave the hustle and bustle of the streets and travel to places.” remote simply by walking through the door. Crossing those doors will serve today, Saturday, to get closer to a wide variety of activities in Cantabria so that readers can enjoy a special day.

Thus, at the Anais Bookstore in Castro Urdiales, the writer Félix G. Modroño will present his latest novel, ‘The City of the Silver Skin’ (Destino), starting at 1:30 p.m. In addition, there will be signing of copies and a dialogue about the reason for celebrating this festival day.

At the Gil Bookstore, in Santander, the activity will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the watercolor workshop for adults taught by the artist and teacher Claudia Iza. The price of the activity is 15 euros including all the necessary materials. Later, at 1:00 p.m., the writer Clara Sastre will present her book ‘Alser’ (Ediciones Discover), accompanied by Rocío Herrera.

Also designed for young readers, at Aida Books & More there will be a literary activity. This is the reading of the story ‘The koala that could’, aimed at girls and boys from 3 years old.

The largest activity will be concentrated in La Vorágine, the critical space on Cisneros Street. In the morning the storytellers will happen. Alba Ibaceta will tell ‘I’ll tell it to the sea’, for children from 7-8 years old (11.30 am). For even younger readers, from 0 to 6 years old, Virginia Álvarez will tell ‘I want a tit’ (12:30 p.m.) and Patricia Alquer will get into the story of ‘The man with the Velcro beard’ (1:30 p.m.).

In the afternoon it will be the turn of poetry. The metric will be invoked by Noelia Palacio (5:00 p.m.), Javier Perales (5:30 p.m.), Marianella Ferrero (6:00 p.m.) and Dani Rojo (6:30 p.m.).

The night will be the territory of Untamed Letters; ‘Publishers Complicit in Other Possible Stories’. Antonio Flores Ledesma will present ‘Marx Juega, an introduction to Marxism from video games (and vice versa)’ (8:00 p.m.).

The Cultural Area of ​​El Corte Inglés has scheduled almost a marathon of readings and signings to commemorate bookstores, booksellers and readers. From 11:00 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., authors Conchi Revuelta, Dolores Conquero and Diego Román will pass through the shopping center. In the afternoon, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., readers will be able to listen to Elena Bargues, Álvaro Machín or Licet Águila, among the twenty writers who have joined the day to read fragments of their works. All clients who wish to participate with a reading can join them, if they wish.

Additionally, during this day only, all books purchased will have a 5% discount.

From the Spanish Confederation of Guilds and Associations of Bookstores (Cegal) they highlight that with the celebration of this day they seek to “highlight our efforts to stay alive and active, energizing our environments, generating culture and community through books and reading.” , in addition to “thanking readers for choosing us and for defending your individual reading space and time.”
