The mayor of Colindres, Javier Incera, will be on the FEMP Sports Commission

The Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) met last week in Madrid to establish its Sports Commission, of which the socialist mayor of Colindres, Javier Incera, will be a member. The delegation will be chaired by the councilor of the Madrid town of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro Prieto. For her part, the mayor of Águilas, in Murcia, Mari Carmen Moreno, will be the vice president. The FEMP positions are held by municipal representatives or presidents of provincial councils and are unpaid.

As reported by the Adjacent City Council in a statement, this is a commission whose fundamental objective is to strengthen, reinforce and value the role that local governments have in promoting physical activity and sports. Its lines of work involve recognizing sport and physical activity as fundamental rights. In addition, the delegation will work to incorporate the gender perspective in budgets and public contracts and to promote both equality and safety in sport.

The commission will also focus on enhancing the resources available to local entities, as well as promoting institutional collaboration between town councils and the Higher Sports Council and sports societies, and promoting financial support for the improvement and creation of new sports facilities.

After the appointment, Incera thanked the FEMP for the possibility of contributing and working in this area. «I think it is a recognition of Colindres and the sporting work that has been carried out for years in the municipality, not only by the City Council, but by all the local sports entities, municipal clubs and schools and all the people who are in charge. of these groups.

“I hope to be able to contribute my grain of sand to the improvement of sport in Spain in general, but above all, at the local and school level,” stated the mayor.
